- Virtual Faculty Residencies in East Asia Plant Humanities (June 1-12, via Zoom).
Deadline February 15. We welcome applications from faculty working within the multidisciplinary field of East Asia studies (history, art history, religion, literature, philosophy, etc.) and are interested in integrating primary and digital sources on plants into their teaching. We also welcome plant scientists and curators with a particular focus on China, Korea, and Japan. Over two weeks, 10 participants will engage in seminar discussions, workshop teaching ideas, and provide feedback on our open access digital resource, the Plant Humanities Lab. The program is organized in collaboration with Professor Natasha Heller (UVA). Participants receive a stipend of $800–the total time commitment is approximately 20-25 hours. More information can be found here.
- Plant Humanities Summer Program July 20–31 (Virtual) | August 3–14 (In-person at Oak Spring Garden Foundation, VA).
Deadline February 15. This hybrid program, offered by the Dumbarton Oaks Plant Humanities Initiative in collaboration with Oak Spring Garden Foundation, introduces participants to the emerging field of plant humanities. We welcome graduate students and advanced undergraduates who wish to explore interdisciplinary approaches to plant-human relationships (drawing from botany, history, art history, literature, Indigenous studies, and environmental studies), while gaining digital skills and working with special collections. Participants will also create, code, and publish peer-reviewed plant narratives for the Plant Humanities Lab. Dumbarton Oaks covers travel, housing, meals, and site visits during the in-person component. More information can be found here.
